Outdoor Jobs and training with Robinwood
In excess of 90% of schools come back to Robinwood year after year. The single most important factor that teachers state, is the outstanding quality of our centre based staff teams. Our selection process, staff training programme and the overall quality of the employment package offered to our staff team are all key factors in ensuring that Robinwood has, as we are constantly told, " the best staff teams".
QUOTE OF THE WEEK!
Oasis Academy, Limeside, Horwich, - The Old School in October 2011
"The children and staff had a wonderful time. The challenge for the children to push themselves out of their comfort zone helped them to achieve and learn. We are excited to return next year!"

Outdoor Activity Instructor Jobs
If you're interested in a job which lets you work in the outdoors, then Robinwood offers fantastic employment opportunities at two UK centres. We employ adventure activity instructors who work as group leaders, looking after groups of 8 to 11 year olds whilst they take part in a range of fantastic activities. The outdoor jobs that Robinwood offers can give you a wonderful lifestyle; it is definitely not a nine to five job, but you do still get plenty of time off which can be spent canoeing, climbing or taking part in other adventure activities with members of the Robinwood team.
Two different employment options:
1. Standard - Robinwood Group Leader Contract:
This involves an average of 35 hours per week from March to November each year and an average of 32 hours per week for December, January and February. On this contract, as well as group leading (and course leading if promoted to do so), you would do a number of additional days including night duties, sitework days, wake-up shifts and bedtime shifts. Days worked would typically vary each week, but you would have at least 2 days off each week.
2. Three fixed days per week - Robinwood Group Leader Contract:
This involves an average of 25 hours per week worked throughout the year. On this contract, following your induction training month, you would only be timetabled to do a group lead (or a course lead if promoted to do so) each week. this would involve working on three fixed days each week, typically either Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday to Friday. It would still involve some sitework being completed on arrivals prior to the group lead and departures immediately after the group lead. It would not involve doing night duties or bedtime shifts.
All the same employment benefits including for example training opportunities and accommodation options are available at the same level whichever employment option you choose.
The employment offer that you take up is entirely your choice. We find that contracts for three fixed days per week are becoming a more popular option, but a number of people taking up this option have either some freelance work or other employment on the days that they are not working for Robinwood.
Adventure activity instructor training
We have an outstanding training programme, which provides the opportunity for all staff to develop and progress whilst working at Robinwood:
- If you are an experienced adventure activity instructor; our outdoor jobs can provide the opportunity for you to progress further with national governing body training and awards.
- If this would be your first work in the outdoors; as long as you have some experience working with children, an interest in adventure activities, the right personal qualities and commitment, we can provide all the training you need, to become an excellent adventure activity instructor.
Our adventure activity instructor staff team are central to our success
Thousands of visiting teachers tell us that the quality of our staff team is the key reason why they return to Robinwood year after year. If you are offered an outdoor job with Robinwood, you will be joining a winning team. We are particularly keen to receive applications from people interested in a career where you can work in the outdoors, as we offer year round employment and many career development opportunities.
Our centres and age group
We have three centres offering adventure and teamwork activities to children aged 7 to 11 years:
- The Old School, Todmorden, Lancashire
- Barhaugh Hall , Alston, Cumbria
- Dobroyd Castle, Todmorden, Lancashire
The enthusiasm and imagination of this age group, in particular, ensures that an outdoor job with these children can provide a high level of job satisfaction.
