Working alongside our Group Leaders, are our brilliant support staff. These staff members offer more specialist support in areas such as catering, housekeeping and maintenance. Lead Cook - Barhaugh Hall

Barhaugh Hall Children’s Activity Centre near Alston is looking for a Lead Cook Assistant. Full-time contract – 32 hours per week (average 38 hours worked over 5 days). Fixed Term to 31st October 2027 (Potential to be extended)
Pay £15.85 per hour
The Role
As part of a small, supportive catering team, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality meals and keeping the kitchen running smoothly.
You will:
• Support the Catering Manager in all kitchen operations
• Lead and motivate the kitchen team during shifts
• Prepare a variety of nutritious meals for children and adults
• Ensure all dietary requirements are met
• Maintain high standards of food hygiene and cleanliness
• Provide a positive and welcoming service to guests
Working Week
- Full-time contract – 32 hours per week (average 38 hours worked over 5 days)
• Fixed 4-week rotating timetable
• Shifts between 6am and 8pm (latest finish), Fridays earlier
Example week:
• Monday: 9am – 8pm
• Tuesday: 7am – 8pm
• Wednesday: 6am – 3pm
• Thursday: 6am – 3pm
• Friday: 6am – 3pm

The Centre
Barhaugh Hall is set in over 9 acres of land and lies on the Cumbria / Northumbria border. For those wishing to have a wonderful experience in a really beautiful part of the countryside, Barhaugh Hall will certainly not disappoint. The views over the valley are breathtaking whatever the weather and it is often possible to spot some of the varied wildlife living in the area such as deer, red squirrels and hares.

Housekeeper - Barhaugh Hall

Barhaugh Hall Children’s Activity Centre near Alston is looking for 2 Housekeepers. 12 hpw contract.
Pay £13.65 per hour (increasing to £13.75 per hour following successful completion of a 6-month probation period)
The Role
This role involves cleaning and preparing our teachers’ rooms before their arrival, and cleaning communal areas of the activity centre. Some cleaning experience is useful but not essential as long as the candidate can demonstrate high standards, self-motivation and a good work ethic.
Some previous work with children is useful, as well as excellent customer care skills and the ability to be positive, professional and supportive of others at all times. We take safeguarding very seriously and the successful applicants will need to complete an enhanced DBS check.
Working Week
Wednesdays and Fridays 7am – 4pm (would consider Monday instead of Friday)

Activity Centre Assistant (Wednesday) - Barhaugh Hall

Barhaugh Hall Children’s Activity Centre near Alston is looking for Activity Centre Assistants (Morning). 10 hpw contract.
£13.65 per hour (increasing to £14.05 per hour following successful completion of a 6-month probation period)
The Role
- Providing support for groups of children between activity sessions. This may include helping with harnesses, buoyancy aid and helmet fitting, provision of waterproofs and other equipment, or other supervisory tasks.
- Providing support on activity sessions such as assisting with Zip Wire, Archery, Giant Swing or water sports support. (No previous experience required, all training is given).
- Mealtime supervision of groups of children.
- Assisting with morning or evening supervision of children, reminding children of routines and liaising with other staff, recording information where appropriate.
- Supporting the catering team with food preparation and kitchen cleaning tasks, serving children and clearing up.
- Cleaning around the centre, maintaining high standards of presentation throughout every aspect of the centre.
