Working alongside our Group Leaders, are our brilliant support staff. These staff members offer more specialist support in areas such as catering, housekeeping and maintenance. Evening Support Assistant - Dobroyd Castle

Dobroyd Castle Children’s Activity Centre in Todmorden is looking for an Evening Support Assistant. 14 hpw Contract

Pay £12.60 per hour

The Role

This role involves assisting with meal supervision and cleaning around the centre, maintaining high standards of presentation throughout every aspect of the centre.

Assisting with evening supervision of children. Reminding children of routines and liaising with other staff, recording information where appropriate.

Providing support for groups of children between sessions. This may include helping with harnesses and helmet fitting, provision of waterproofs and other equipment, or other supervisory tasks. And providing support on sessions by fulfilling roles such as bottom of Zip Wire or lake cover.

Actual shifts and duties carried out will be discussed and agreed with the centre manager prior to the job starting.

Some previous work with children is useful, as well as excellent customer care skills and the ability to be positive, professional and supportive of others at all times. We take safeguarding very seriously and the successful applicants will need to complete an enhanced DBS check.

Working Week

Typical shifts would be working from 2.00 pm to 10.30 pm on Tuesdays and 12.30 pm to 10.30 pm on Wednesdays.

The Centre

Dobroyd Castle is set high up on the Todmorden moors enjoying some fantastic views of the surrounding area. It is a historic, grade two listed building, with wonderful architecture including a breathtaking main entrance hall. The 17 acres of grounds, which accommodate Robinwood adventure and teamwork activities, are also the home for a wide range of wildlife including deer, rabbits and many more.

Evening Support/Kitchen Assistant - Maes y Nant

Maes y Nant Children’s Activity Centre near Wrexham is looking for an Evening Kitchen Assistant. 14 hpw Contract

Pay £12.60 per hour

The Role

Tuesdays: Support Assistant – Involves assisting with meal supervision and cleaning around the centre, maintaining high standards of presentation throughout every aspect of the centre. Assisting with evening supervision of children. Reminding children of routines and liaising with other staff, recording information where appropriate. Providing support for groups of children between sessions. This may include helping with harnesses and helmet fitting, provision of waterproofs and other equipment, or other supervisory tasks. And providing support on sessions by fulfilling roles such as bottom of Zip Wire or lake cover.

Wednesday: Kitchen Assistant – Involves helping with serving, pot washing, and basic food preparation for the children and teachers who visit our activity centre. Some kitchen experience is useful but not essential as long as the candidate can demonstrate high standards, self-motivation and a good work ethic.

Working Week

Typical shifts would be working from 2.00 pm to 10.30 pm on Tuesdays (Support Assistant) and 1.00 pm to 8.00 pm on Wednesdays. (Kitchen Assistant)

The Centre

Set in the beautiful Welsh countryside just outside of Wrexham, the original building dates back to the late Victorian era when it was built as a private house in around 1870.

Its name Maes-y-Nant when translated means ‘house by a stream’. Although the stream remains, the old owners would struggle to recognise it now as the site has been transformed with purpose-built facilities to provide an amazing Robinwood experience.

Lead Cook - Barhaugh Hall

Barhaugh Hall Children’s Activity Centre near Alston is looking for a Lead Cook. 33 hpw contract.

Starting pay £23,377.20 (£15.40 per hour)

The Role

As a Lead Cook you will be at the heart of the kitchen, reporting to the Catering Manager and supporting them to deliver high quality meals and a smooth-running kitchen. You’ll lead by example and motivate a small, friendly catering team and ensure our visiting children and teachers enjoy nutritious, tasty meals throughout their stay.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the Catering Manager in all aspects of kitchen operations
  • Leading and motivating the kitchen team during shifts
  • Positively interacting with customers and providing them an excellent service
  • Preparing a variety of meals suitable for children and adults
  • Maintaining excellent standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness
  • Ensuring special dietary requirements are catered for appropriately

Working Week

This is a full-time position with a contract of 33 hours per week. Lead Cooks receive 6 weeks of paid holiday and accrue a further 6 weeks of holiday during their working weeks. This allows for 12 weeks holiday a year, closely following the school holiday dates. These accrued holiday hours means the average working week to be around 38 hours per week.

  • Monday – Friday, no late nights or weekend work
  • Breakfast shifts start no earlier than 6am
  • Evening shifts finish no later than 8pm
  • Friday finish no later than 5pm, but usually 3pm
  • Timetable is on a 4 week pattern, an example of one working week could be:
    • Monday – 6am – 3pm
    • Tuesday – 6am – 3pm
    • Wednesday – 9am – 8pm
    • Thursday – 7am – 8pm
    • Friday – 7am – 2pm

Barhaugh Hall is set in over 9 acres of land and lies on the Cumbria / Northumbria border. For those wishing to have a wonderful experience in a really beautiful part of the countryside, Barhaugh Hall will certainly not disappoint. The views over the valley are breathtaking whatever the weather and it is often possible to spot some of the varied wildlife living in the area such as deer, red squirrels and hares.

As Kitchen Assistant you will assist with basic food preparation as required to prepare meals for children and accompanying adults attending Robinwood courses. Serve meals to children and accompanying adults attending Robinwood course, completed in good time whilst maintaining a good atmosphere and environment in the dining room.

Working Week

Typical shifts would be working from 6.30 am to 2.00 pm on Wednesdays.
