How to Apply for an Activity Instructor Job

Our next intake of instructor staff will be in spring 2012 and we would welcome your application now.

If you would like to apply to work at Robinwood, the first stage is to complete an application form. This can be done via the Online Application Form link below - please provide as much information as possible, especially in relation to experience working with children and any outdoor experience or qualifications:

Online Application Form

When completing the above form please complete ALL sections and give as much relevant information as you can, particularly providing details of any previous experience working with groups of children. Please remember our first decision on whether we proceed with your application is based purely on the information you can provide on your application form.

We will normally confirm receipt of an application form within a week and give further details of how your application will be proceeding.

Referees and CRB checks

All job offers are subject to satisfactory references and crb checks.

All Robinwood staff applicants need to provide three relevant referees, who could provide independent and informed comment on the applicant. These should ideally include a previous or current employer. References from friends or relatives will not be accepted.

All Robinwood staff also need to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) Disclosure form. If you are invited to attend a selection day you will be asked to complete CRB disclosure forms during the day. These forms will then be sent off if and when an appointment is offered.

Attending a Robinwood selection weekend

If we wish to pursue your application, you will be invited to attend a Robinwood selection weekend. These take place at the Robinwood Old School Activity Centre in Todmorden throughout the year and run from 2.00 pm on Saturday through to 3.30pm on the Sunday. Accommodation and food are offered free of charge.

Selection weekend tasks include:

  1. An interview.
  2. A design task.
  3. Crate Challenge.
  4. Leading an activity for a group of candidates and participating in activities lead by other members of the group.

The whole experience is also planned to be enjoyed by all involved and to provide plenty of opportunity to find out about Robinwood.

Some companies in the outdoor industry may offer you a job as the result of an interview over the telephone. This is not possible with Robinwood. We take great care with our selection procedure and all new applicants must attend a selection day if they are to be considered for a job. This does involve additional time and work on your part, but it also gives you the opportunity to check us out, to see one of our centres and find out first hand from a range of staff what it’s like to work at Robinwood. Most people find this a very worthwhile and positive experience.

Once again an amazing residential. Everything was superbly organised and well structured to meet the needs of our children. All staff at Robinwood were absolutley amazing and really friendly. Our group leaders were fantastic and really supported and looked after us extremely well. We had no issues at all. Baking the birthday cake was an amazing suprise and Abdul was really delighted. The catering was fantastic and all children enjoyed their meals at Robinwood. Keeping up with time and following the timetable was another amazing positive. The day is well structured with the right amount of breaks embedded throughout. The children had an amazing life time experience and were sad on the journey back to school. *Just want to say a great BIG thank you for making our residential an outstanding experience !!!* Looking forward to visiting you again next year !!!
