How to Apply for an Activity Instructor Job
If you would like to apply to work at Robinwood, the first stage is to complete an application form. This can either be done via the Online Application Form or by downloading and completing a pdf application form (pdf 76kb) and then posting it to our head office at Robinwood Activity Centre, Jumps Road, Todmorden, Lancashire, OL14 8HJ.
When completing your form please give as much relevant information as you can, particularly providing details of any previous experience working with groups of children. Please remember our first decision on whether we proceed with your application is based purely on the information you can provide on your application form.
We will normally confirm receipt of an application form within a couple of days and give further details of how your application will be proceeding.
Referees and CRB checks
All Robinwood staff applicants need to provide two relevant referees, who could provide independent and informed comment on the applicant. These should ideally include a previous or current employer. References from friends or relatives will not be accepted.
All Robinwood staff also need to complete a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) Disclosure form. If you are invited to attend a selection day you will be asked to complete CRB disclosure forms during the day. These forms will then be sent off if and when an appointment is offered.
Attending a Robinwood selection day
All applicants need to attend a Robinwood selection day. These take place at the Robinwood South Pennines Activity Centre in Todmorden and runs from 8.00am to 3.30pm. You will need to arrive between 5pm and 6pm on the evening before the selection day. Accommodation and food are offered free of charge.
The evening before the selection day, generally provides the opportunity to meet some current Robinwood staff and to find out from them, in an informal setting, what it is like working for Robinwood.
Selection days tasks include:
- An interview.
- Piranha Pool exercise, together with a group of candidates.
- An indoor problem solving task, together with a group candidates.
- Leading an activity for a group of candidates and participating in activities lead by other members of the group.
The whole day is also planned to be enjoyed by all involved and to provide plenty of opportunity to find out about Robinwood.
Some companies in the outdoor industry may offer you a job as the result of an interview over the telephone. This is not possible with Robinwood. We take great care with our selection procedure and all new applicants must attend a selection day if they are to be considered for a job. This does involve additional time and work on your part, but it also gives you the opportunity to check us out, to see one of our centres and find out first hand from a range of staff what it’s like to work at Robinwood. Most people find this a very worthwhile and positive experience.

From entering Robinwood we were made to feel really welcome. The fact that we had the same group leader on all activities was a major advantage, as within a very short while both leaders knew all the children's names and the children gained trust in them very quickly. The children were kept busy from getting up to going to bed which they loved!
